E-sports tournament organizer ESL Gaming announced a partnership with global cryptocurrency platform Coinbase

ESL and Coinbase will now cooperate on integrations in broadcasts, social media, digital media, content more. Coinbase is also the “official crypto exchange partner” for upcoming events in 2021 and 2022, starting with IEM Cologne. Other events in the next years will include the ESL Pro Tour circuit for Counterstrike: Global Offensive, StarCraft II and Warcraft III. The financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.

Crypto presence in e-sports tournaments is growing, with Team SoloMid or TSM for short striking a tremendous deal with another global crypto exchange at the same time. FTX paid $210 million for the naming rights of the team, rebranding it as TSM FTX.

Much to the frustration of TSM, the team was not permitted to use its new name in certain recent tournaments, such as Riot titles for League of Legends, as the stakeholder had the final say in these matters.
