Hard Rock €1.5 billion Athens casino complex to launch by 2027

Hard Rock International, in collaboration with GEK TERNA Group, marked a significant milestone on Friday with the commencement of construction for its €1.5 billion (US $1.65 billion) luxury resort and casino in the heart of the Greek Athens Riviera.

The ceremony to commemorate this event, held at the iconic Hellinikon Airport, featured a symbolic shovel event followed by a gathering at the Hellinikon Experience Center. It was attended by key figures from Hard Rock International, GEK TERNA Group, Greek government officials, political dignitaries, and local community leaders.

Hellinikon Airport will be Europe’s first integrated casino resort

Scheduled to open its doors in 2027, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens is poised to be a groundbreaking venture, aiming to redefine entertainment and tourism in continental Europe. With a focus on luxury, the integrated resort will encompass a diverse array of offerings, including an upscale hotel, an extensive gaming floor, premier meeting spaces, a cutting-edge entertainment casino venue, internationally acclaimed dining options, a Rock Spa and Pool Complex, and an upscale retail promenade. The 1,100-guest room tower will provide visitors with a choice of 15 dining options, promising an unparalleled experience inspired by Athens’s rich culture and the Mediterranean landscape.

Economic impact for Greece

Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International, expressed gratitude on this historic occasion, stating, “Today is a very special day as we celebrate this momentous occasion to bring our unique brand of world-class entertainment to Athens. We are grateful to all the political leaders, our partners at Gek Terna, and the people of Athens for supporting us and this project.”

The ambitious construction project is expected to have a substantial economic impact, generating 3,000 construction jobs and an additional 3,000 permanent jobs. This initiative not only stimulates the local economy of Athens but also contributes positively to Greece’s broader economic landscape. George Peristeris, Chairman and CEO of GEK TERNA Group, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “It is a project that is already being built, proving in practice that we implement our commitments.”

The collaboration between Hard Rock International and GEK TERNA Group aims to create a world-class redevelopment, transforming the historic Hellinikon Airport into a hub that will enhance the city and elevate Greece’s tourism industry on the international stage.
